4 Tips to Boost Your Immune System

immune system

You’ve got a big presentation coming up in a few days. So, of course, your sinuses are choosing now of all times to go into overdrive. On top of everything, you’ve got a killer migraine, and you can’t stop coughing.

You hate to admit it, but unless you get better soon, you’re going to have to reschedule your presentation. You wish you knew what made you so sick in the first place. It could have been several things. Unless you take strides to make changes and boost your immune system, it will happen to you again. Keep reading to learn how to get started.

1. Watch What You Eat

You can’t improve your immune system if you fill your body full of junk. It needs a balanced diet of fruits, veggies, lean proteins, healthy fats, and whole grains.

This will give your body a good supply of micronutrients to keep your immune system going, such as vitamin E, vitamin B6, and vitamin C.

If you’re deficient in any of these vitamins, you can go to buy a supplement to make up for what you’re not getting through your food.

2. Get Some Sleep

When you slip into REM sleep at night, your body begins to repair itself from everything you put it through during the day. It can’t do this if you don’t get enough rest.

To this end, getting 8 hours of sleep is one of the best things to boost your immune system. If you find that you spend most of the night tossing and turning, take a moment to think about what you do before you go to bed.

If you scroll through your phone while you’re winding down, for example, it can disrupt your circadian rhythm, making it impossible to go to sleep. Trade up the screen for a nice book instead.

3. Put Down the Cigarettes

If you smoke cigarettes, start making strides to either cut back or quit altogether if you can. The chemicals found inside of your favorite smokes disrupt your immune system.

Unless you put them down, you’ll be a lot more vulnerable to getting sick.

4. Get Up and Move

After being under a long period of intense stress, you’ll begin to show physical symptoms. It could even decrease your immune system. The best way to fight stress is with exercise.

It releases feel-good endorphins that will keep you calm. Getting off your feet also improves blood circulation throughout your entire body. This makes it easier for immune cells to travel around and do their job.

This doesn’t mean that you have to hit the gym every day. Going on a short 30-minute walk each morning will be enough to do the trick.
