Explaining the Materials Used for Scaffolding

Scaffolding

Scaffolding is primarily used to construct infrastructure as temporary support for the structure currently being built and as a platform that allows the construction workers to move around the site. Various scaffolding supplies are utilised in making this kind of structure that aids in construction that would be specified later. So, this article would discuss the materials that are usually used for scaffolding.

Scaffolding Supplies

In creating a scaffolding, construction workers integrate various materials to make this kind of structure that would support them in the job they are doing. Here are the commonly used supplies that are utilised by construction workers that include:

  • Planks. It is the material that allows workers to walk around the construction site, which must have sufficient size for the used frame and the materials used. The materials that commonly make it up are wood, steel, and aluminium, which must be strong enough to withstand the weight of a man.
  • Cross Bars. It aids the structure to be more durable, which allows the structure to support heavier things and avoid accidents. The bars are usually diagonally placed so that they would create triangular shapes.
  • Frame. It is a material that makes up the scaffold’s general structure, which comprises bars and poles. Moreover, workers must regularly check its condition because it is the basis for the strength and durability of the structure.
  • Connecting Pins and Clamps. These are the materials that connect every other supply used in creating scaffolds, which workers must regularly check because it has a grave purpose that allows the structure to hold together.
  • Base Plates. It is a material that spreads out the weight of the scaffold so that it would put less pressure on the ground and avoid the structure from sinking on the ground. Therefore, this type of material is always seen on the lowest point of the scaffold poles to not sink or slip once used.
  • Safety Barriers or Safety Netting. It is a material that workers can use depending on the scaffolding’s use, location, and type due to the extra precautions that they must take during the construction. Therefore, its creation aims to add extra protection for the workers, wherein it would catch those who would fall and at the same time avoid any debris falling to those located on the ground.
  • Level. It is a material that has two variants, which are the spirit level, which is a piece of traditional equipment, and electronic level, which is commonly used today. Its purpose is to check the height of the scaffold because it is the best and safest when it is constructed on a level surface.
  • Tape Measure. It is a material that allows workers to follow the given requirements based on their building structure. So, it helps in the planning and execution of the scaffold on the construction site.
  • Spanners or Socket Set. It is a material that would allow individuals to tighten up everything that has nuts.
  • Claw Hammer. It is a material that enables workers to securely put pins and clamps on the place needed to be placed. Other than that, it allows workers to remove all the used pins when the scaffold is disassembled.
  • Personal Protective Equipment. It is a type of supply worn by construction workers to protect themselves during their work on the building site.

To sum it up, scaffolding supplies have great importance in the safety of the workers in a construction site, so the materials that workers would use in making it must be durable and can handle the weight of the worker. Therefore, it is a must-have in a construction site that must also be thoroughly checked and assembled before being used.
