On the role of zombies in video games. Biting pads for whipping – or? ..

Zombies are among the most important adversaries in video games. Usually they pose little danger to the player, but enough to draw attention to themselves. There are always a lot of them. You can do whatever your heart desires with them, because they do not feel pain, do not experience emotions, and they do not care about anything other than food. They just want to bite the protagonist more painfully, and devour his insides. Here I will only talk about the most common zombies(destructive wave 5e spell ) that can be found in games.

Where do they come from

The origins of zombie creation vary considerably. Some of them are created with voodoo, some with necromancy. Such zombies are controlled from the outside, forcing to fulfill the will of their master. Being animated by magic, such zombies are extremely difficult to destroy, and they move synchronously, like puppets, which they are. There is also an option in which a certain entity takes possession of a person, using its carrier as a meat transport.

The most popular are the zombies that the virus made them. Often they didn’t even die completely. The disease destroys everything human in them, leaving only the most basic instincts. They are much less organized and very easy to distract, however, the thirst for flesh creates certain hordes of interests that weave in approximately the same direction, exterminating everything in their path. It is extremely easy to destroy this creature, but this creature more than compensates for the lack of vitality by the number of friends. A virus is a virus that spreads rapidly, creating more and more infected.

There is also a modern analogue of magic, when technology is already involved in the production of zombies. In this case, the zombies either burn their brains out, gaining control over the body, or control them using some kind of hellish device that controls the unfortunate. Next, I will give an example of several games that have successfully implemented this opponent in practice.

Gothic 1

Gothic knows how to skillfully bring players down to earth. When I played Eldritch Blast 5e for the first time, I decided to test my strength in hand-to-hand combat, not expecting much resistance from the monsters from the initial location. As a result, I was killed by a young scavenger … Later, when I raised the level a little, and again believed in my strength, the orcs clearly showed me why you should not enter their territory earlier than expected.

But some of the most memorable enemies for me were zombies. These cursed creatures are relatively rare, but they will come as a surprise to an unprepared player. They are slow, extremely tenacious, and hit quite hard. If the player focuses on melee, then zombies will become a real punishment for him, because without good pumping, they will suffer ridiculous damage. At the same time, they have an extremely demoralizing feature: when struck, pieces of flesh fly off from them. I remember the moment when, cursing my curiosity, I desperately fought off the zombie, which, losing pieces of flesh, continued to push. I fucking found the secret. Aha!

Quake 1

After Doom, I was very confident in my abilities when I started Quake. At first, the game seemed funny to me. When the protagonist raised several ammunition at once, he said: “May-mine, may-mine, may-mine.” Fun! The fun ended after meeting the zombies. This is such a creature that throws pieces of its own flesh. My heart almost stopped when, having received its portion of lead, this creature stood up, again continuing to attack me. After such Quake, I haven’t started it for a long time!

Doom 3

That was when it was time to get revenge for my humiliation in Quake! Doom 3 was (and still is) an incredibly creepy game. With her sounds, monsters, and dynamic shadows. Of course there were zombies! Slow, dumb, very easy to destroy. I was already ready, letting them as close as possible, and destroying them with a shotgun: one of the best shotguns in first-person shooters, by the way! Thanks specifically to these zombies – I coped with my fear!

STALKER: Clear Sky

The result of a brain cleanse is zero. In STALKER, the zombie graze peacefully in nature, firing at those who catch their eye. In Shadows of Chernobyl, they posed minimal danger compared to other local inhabitants. Do you see a group of zombies? Imposingly you sneak up and cut them out one by one. In “Clear Sky” I tried to repeat this trick. After the attack of the first “Firebolt 5e“, the whole group simultaneously turned around, riddling me with bullets. And then I had to fight off a whole wave of these guys, protecting the scientists. The zombies drove me to the roof, from where I was shooting back. At the same time, I saw a zombie who rolled over. The zombie rolled! Yes, there are more familiar types of zombies in this universe, but zombies are better remembered!

They Are Billions

How can you make zombies in a strategy where you kill hundreds of these creatures in a minute, dangerous? Very simple! All buildings in this game are very fragile. And if at least one infected person is not noticed in time, he will very quickly turn the base into the abode of the dead. One infected building spawns several zombies, which immediately attack other buildings. Thus, along the chain, one small mistake leads either to defeat or significantly rolls back progress, which may well turn out to be fatal. And the final wave makes you worry about the stability of your defense!

Left 4 dead

It’s more of an interactive horror than a shooter. Infected (apart from special ones) are divided into two types: those that happily rush at the survivors, and the classic version: zombies slowly lingering on the horizon, which create an atmosphere. The game generously supplies the four with tools for the destruction of the infected, and the “Director” massively supplies material for destruction. Rifles, shotguns, machine guns, Molotov cocktails, stationary machine guns. This is what a fun zombie apocalypse game should look like! And how cinematically they die. If you run up to a zombie from behind and shoot at him, he will slowly slide down the wall. And the game has enough animation for every type of death.

Conclusion

There are few criminal games in which zombies are competently implemented. But if they were done correctly, they leave an indelible impression. We should also mention “Game of Thrones S08E03 Torrent“. The fact that the game with Dmitry Puchkov on the cover managed to present the zombies in such an atmospheric way is worth a lot! And I did not write anything about Resident Evil, because I have not played any game from this series.
