Sunscreen Spray – Using it Safely For Your & Your Family

Sunscreen Spray - Using it Safely For Your & Your Family

When used correctly, sunscreen spray is both convenient and effective. That’s why they’re becoming more and more popular with families up and down the country.

Especially went talking about children who just won’t sit still, this relatively new type of product is especially useful.

Before we get carried away thinking that standard lotions are about to be made obsolete, we need to point out that there are a couple of things relating to safety that you need to be aware of.

Some Sprays Can Be Flammable

If you’re a smoker or love to barbecue, it’s important that you know not to use any kind of aerosol spray near a naked flame. The majority of sunscreen spray products aren’t going to be dangerous in this way, but some are – and that’s why you should be cautious.

In some brands of spray-activated sunscreens, it’s the propellant that’s flammable, and you’ve only got to see what happens when someone sprays hairspray over a naked flame – that’s right, a fireball!

Clearly, that’s not something you want, so always be sure that you’re nowhere near a flame before using any type of aerosol, be it for sunscreen or any kind of product.

Try Your Best Not to Ingest Spray Sunscreen

You don’t need to be a sunscreen expert to know that they’re not meant to be ingested, but when dealing with a spray, it’s something that can happen if you’re not careful.

It’s not likely to kill you if you accidentally spray a little into your mouth, but you don’t want to make a habit of it. If for some bizarre reason, your child swallowed more than a little, they might become sick and perhaps even a little drunk – as some sunscreens contain ethanol.

Actually, inhaling it can result in irritation, especially for someone with asthma, so again, avoid it if you can. The best practice is to not spray it directly onto the face, but rather spray it on your hand and rub it in that way.

Is Sunscreen Spray As Effective as a Lotion?

Absolutely it is, yes, you see, it’s just the delivery method that has changed. It’s essentially the same product, so it will offer the same amount of UV protection as a lotion would.

You have to guard against putting on too little – something spray users sometimes do. The main reason why anyone has trouble with a spray sunscreen is that they underestimate the required amount compared to how much lotion they would use.

Staying Safe & Protected With Spray Sunscreens

As with any product, sunscreen spray has its pros and cons, but if you follow the guidelines shown here, there’s no reason why you should ever have a problem. The only thing we’ll add into the mix is that you should be careful with sprays on windy days – but aside from that, we’ve covered everything.

Just remember to choose the right product for your needs and always follow the directions. Do that and you’ll be safe and sound.
