Uses of Herbal Oils

Herbal oil is sourced from dry or fresh plant matter and vegetable oil (typical oils with a longer shelf life, such as sunflower, olive oil, jojoba oil, and coconut oil), extracted by a process known as maceration or infusion.

Because the extraction process takes place via molecular diffusion, which is prolonged, obtaining a quality maceration can take many months. Macerations are more complicated than essential oils and have different healing qualities because they catch the heavier, more giant molecules.

Flavonoids and glucosides are soluble in fat like essential oils but are too heavy to pass distillation, are found in infused oils. Flavonoids are the pigments that give the plant its color. They’re excellent metal chelators and antioxidants.
