Huawei Tablets MatePad Pro 12.6 Review: is HarmonyOS any good?

Huawei Tablets MatePad Pro 12.6 Review

It was launched earlier this summer as Huawei’s most premium tablet, the Huawei tablets MatePad Pro 12.6, as well as multiple accessories. The HarmonyOS software is the first to be available out of the box on Huawei tablets.

An impressive display and good build quality characterize this tablet. It has one of the best battery lives as well. There are many shortcomings in its software, making it difficult for anyone outside China to use it. Aside from the device’s limited refresh rate and the tablet’s underwhelming camera, its display is nice.

The MatePad Pro 12.6 is priced at €799,99, putting it directly in competition with the Apple iPad Pro 11 (2021) and the Samsung Galaxy Tab S7+. What about its price tag, though? The hardware of this device is fairly impressive, but some of its features fail to deliver.

Ideation

It may look like the typical high-end tablet of 2021 at first glance, but the Huawei MatePad Pro 12.6 is very different.

This device is ideal for those who need a lightweight ultra-portable device because of its small bezels and light weight (609g). In addition to the metal chassis, the tablet has a matte back, which is weak, especially where the Huawei logo is located in the middle, which sinks when pressure is applied. As the MatePad Pro was equipped with wireless and reverse wireless charging capabilities, and the charging point was located there, the sinking effect was evident. It’s nice to see that a LED notification light is included right next to the front camera. It has a pleasant feel to the touch due to the materials used on the MatePad Pro 12.6.

It was the speakers that most impressed me. Harman Kardon designed the stereo speakers on the sides of the Huawei tablet MatePad Pro 12.6, which is sold by Huawei. There is plenty of depth and punch in the audio output of these headphones. The MacBook’s speakers sounded worse than the ones on the MatePad Pro, and I’ve had bluetooth speakers that sounded worse than the ones on most laptops.

Visually display

The Huawei MatePad Pro has an OLED display that measures 12.6 inches and features a 2560 x 1600 resolution. The screen looks great. The tablet is easy to read outside on a sunny day due to its high peak brightness setting, which gets as high as its lowest brightness setting.

Despite this display’s 60Hz refresh rate, its only flaw is its low resolution. However, a 120Hz or 90Hz refresh rate screen could have improved the tablet’s performance. The MatePad Pro doesn’t have the best specs by any means. The tablet costs almost as much as the 11-inch iPad Pro (2021), which has a 120Hz variable refresh rate, a high refresh rate that most people will never need.

Huawei tablets MatePad Pro 12.6 Camera

Dual cameras appear on the back of the Huawei tablets MatePad Pro 12.6 and a single camera appears on the front. Considering all of these cameras are average, you can’t expect much from this camera setup.

An f/1.8 aperture is used on the main camera, which has a 13MP sensor. Despite its high price, it delivers decent results for a tablet. With an aperture of 8MP, the second camera also produces disappointing pictures. These cameras do not take detailed photos. Also, these cameras aren’t very good at picking the right temperature, resulting in results that are often too warm. A bit of a washed-out appearance is evident in the photos taken by the ultrawide lens.
